As of April 2026, the Allahabad High Court is reviewing allegations regarding Rahul Gandhi's citizenship, focusing on claims that he holds British nationality. A petitioner alleges that documents show Gandhi registered a company in the UK and used British nationality. The court has summoned records from the Ministry of Home Affairs for a hearing scheduled for April 6, 2026.
Allegation: Petitioner Vignesh Shishir alleges that Rahul Gandhi holds British citizenship and has voted in the UK.
Court Action: The Allahabad High Court's Lucknow bench is actively hearing a PIL regarding this, with a major hearing scheduled for April 6, 2026, regarding documents presented by the petitioner.
Previous Investigation: A complaint from 2015-2019 regarding similar claims (alleging British citizenship via a UK company, Backops Ltd.) saw the Home Ministry issuing a notice at that time.
Legal Context: Indian law prohibits dual citizenship.
Smt.Sonia gandhi , smt.Priyanka gandhi & Shri.Rahul Gandhi were and are in constitutional positions. They are privy to our national security issues and make government laws.
Inspite of repeated complaints government has not properly enquired regarding foreign citizenship of above three individuals and may be colluding in suppression of facts.
Government is not disclosing information under RTI Act also.
Please order the concerned officials to investigate the matter and make report public.

Delhi High Court sends Subramanian Swamy’s plea over Rahul Gandhi’s citizenship to PIL Bench
Justice Sanjeev Narula forwarded Mr. Swamy’s plea before the Bench which deals with the PIL and listed the matter on September 26
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday said the plea by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy seeking directions to the Union Home Ministry to decide his representation seeking cancellation of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Indian citizenship will be treated a public interest litigation (PIL).
Justice Sanjeev Narula forwarded Mr. Swamy’s plea before the Bench which deals with the PIL. “For this court to exercise jurisdiction under Article 226 of the Constitution, enforceable constitutional rights must be demonstrated which the court cannot find,” the court said.
“The court could see that there could be a public interest involved which is the cause Swamy wishes to espouse in the present petition. In view of the above, the matter be listed before the roster Bench dealing with PILs,” the court said.
Mr. Swamy, who was arguing in person, said if the court feels that the plea be heard as a PIL, it was within the court’s power to send it to the Bench dealing with public interest litigations. “It is for the Government of India. I am not doing it for my personal benefit,” Mr Swamy said.
The BJP leader said the complaint made by him to the Ministry was acknowledged and Mr. Gandhi was called upon to give his response to it. He said there has been no progress or intimation given to him since then.
The court listed the matter before the roster Bench dealing with PILs on September 26.
Mr. Swamy, in his plea, also sought a direction to the Ministry to furnish a status report on the representation made by him against Mr. Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
The petition, filed through advocate Satya Sabharwal, said that Mr. Swamy had recently written a letter to the Ministry on Mr. Gandhi “voluntarily disclosing” to the British government that “he is a citizen of British nationality, amounting to holding a British passport”.
The plea said Mr. Gandhi, being an Indian citizen, has violated Article 9 of the Constitution read with the Indian Citizenship Act and would cease to be an Indian citizen.
Mr. Swamy said he has sent many representations to the Ministry inquiring about the status of his complaint but neither any action has been taken nor he has been intimated about it.

Lt Col Mukul Chauhan has sent a legal notice to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra that at the time of your birth on 12 January 1972, her mother Mrs.Sonia Gandhi was an Italian citizen and as per the law of citizenship in Italy, a child born to a citizen of Italy, a where in the world, on birth itself acquires citizenship of Italy.
As per the citizenship law, if you have foreign citizenship then you cannot get citizenship of India until and unless you have renounced your foreign citizenship.
Lt Col has sought response by providing a self-attested copy of the document vide which she has renounced her citizenship of Italy or else confirm that you still enjoy the citizenship of Italy.
It is also stated that our Constitution does not permit members to Lok Sabha to a person who is not a citizen of India.
There is also speculation that Gandhi Vadra was keen to contest but Raul and Sonia Gandi did not want her to start her political career with a defeat from Modi. With Priyanka joining the election campaign from day one was that she would contest the election but what prompted to withdraw her from nomination is still a guess work till a word from Gandhi family.
